Qatar....

Absolute fucking madness!

British and American citizens will be among the nationals of 33 countries that will have to apply for a visa prior to arrival in Qatar, according to new rules being enacted by the emirate from May 1.

The regulations also mean that all passengers wishing to travel to Qatar for business purposes will need to have their visas arranged by a local sponsor, via the Ministry of Interior.

British nationals wishing to apply for a Qatari visa will need to provide their last three months’ bank statements, which must show the name and address of the applicant, and prove that there is at least $1,300 in the applicant’s account.

I say again......madness!
Spiteful, arrogant, ignorant, ill-informed, uneducated, moronic madness!

whoops - guess no international companies will bother holding seminars, workshops, conferences there any more.

what tourism there was will be squashed.

I suspect this will be a case of "be careful what you wish for - you may just get it".

well we wouldnt have this issue if they allowed Qataris (sp?) to smoke on a plane.
On a serious note, why the change in policy?

Who wants to go there anyway ??? Ever heard of anyone going "for a Holiday"in Qatar. The Qataris should be opening their doors to people not slowly slamming them shut.

Yeh....I also heard from a friend in Qatar yesterday that the change has been 'delayed'. It bears similarity to the Abu Dhabi government telling everyone to 'kill' their 'pet birds', during the world bird flu crisis....and the f*ckwit who decided everyone in downtown Deira must buy a 'dryer' as he did not like seeing washing hung up everywhere....so decided to ban it. Genius. Of course none of these things happened.......press printed it...and two days later the requests were all reversed....by someone even more 'senior'. Class Stuff !!

they are currently revisiting the idea...hopefully they will realize what this means and stop the madness.'

Imagine living here...I do...madness. I can't wait to leave here.

I thought Oman and Qatar used to have a joint tourist visa venture.

Hardly madness. The UK and US have a very similar visa policy towards Qataris (and the GCC as a whole). It's only reciprocation.

Amber - Gee. That's weird!

JD, madness is having the US and UK government run that same policy on all GCC nationals.

Having a british or american passport shouldn't grant you access to a country as easy as you want it, they should make you work for it too :) like the rest do for yours.

You shouldn't worry too much about this, it'll be quick and easy getting the visa. Also your lifestyle and first class travels proves you got money in the bank, so you'll never fall short :)

All worries aside.. how you doin ?

What makes Brits think they are all so special? Omanis and Qataris can't just fly into UK anytime they want to without first going through countless hoops about finance, purpose of visit etc....you get the picture. Perhaps the Qataris are waking up to the fact that Brits are not so civilised as they thought we were.

"A sixteen-year-old boy from Qatar has died after being attacked by a white gang outside a takeaway restaurant in East Sussex in what police are treating as a racist murder."

A classic case of Qatar leaving a bad taste in the mouth as well as making us all cough.
