Winter Is Upon Us

Yesterday evening.
A long, slow walk along the sea-front. A cool breeze. The boats passing by as their owners head for home.
A takeaway latté and a quiet seat on the beach to watch the sun go down.

Oman between now and April is truly wonderful. I love this time of year!

Me too! It's like the summer back home, nice enough to sit out and bbq on the deck, do some gardening and get a tan. My skin actually went back to white this summer because it was too hot to go outside.

It's good to think about the terrific things here, as they are many and do go a long ways to balance out the crazy-inducing.

Now if we could do something about the red tide/rotten crab smell. And come up with a couple more places to have something more than just a latté on the beach, and...

Oops, there I go again. Gotta concentrate on that sunset.

The chill is not fixed yet, it is fluctuating. I remember in Feb 2008, the temp dipped to 9 degrees centigrade one particular day.

9 degrees - My kind of day! :)

Yes it did just hit 9 degrees once last winter. However I think you're being a bit rose-tinted with your April thing JD, early March seems to be the end of it most years.

And the red tide really is bad; it's been around for over three weeks now

I'm supposed to be cooking Christmas dinner on the beach in a few weeks. I have assured everyone that the water will be clear and there will not be a putrid crabby smell drowning the subtle aroma of my pit-roasted turkey.

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I’m trying to remain neutral, but it’s getting harder. You have said some things for me, particularly on manners and etiquette (27 Nov). My daughter will probably be bringing a cricket bat when she comes at Christmas to avoid a repeat of an incident at Falaj Daris last year.
Keep up the good work.

Hi JD- I am in Oman now and it's very nice weather to acclimitize to (coming from wintery Canada!). I plan on checkin the beaches, just like the one you have on this pic. Interesting city, this Muscat. I already had some "harassment" (though mild) issues with 3 diff men in 3 diff cars within 2 hrs in one neighborhood (near Holiday Inn) on my stroll today. I just gave them the finger (just kidding!)...Anyway, good to be exposed to the bad already! I would like to ask your opinion on how to get internet connection here. I got my Mac laptop with me & been using the hotel wi-fi but when I move to an apartment next week,I'd like to know which is a better way in getting hooked up on the net. Any tips greatly appreciated! Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!
